Spicy Tofu and Pork on July 2
I was going to make gnocchi today. Bruce bought some nice russet potatoes over the weekend that I was going to use. I have yet to master the art of fluffy, light gnocchi. I’ve tried many recipes and many techniques all to no avail. When I told Bruce yesterday that I was going to try again, I could see his jaw tighten…..uh oh…is what he was thinking I’m sure. Anyway, when I went in the fridge this morning I realized that we had tofu that needed to be eaten before the end of the week, so no gnocchi tonight!
I whipped up one of the favorite tofu dishes to get over my disappointment: spicy tofu with ground pork. I served it with this green bamboo rice that Bruce bought in some gourmet shop a while back. It certainly is green, but doesn’ t taste like bamboo at all. We enjoyed some excellent kim chee, and finished the last of the snap peas (with garlic, ginger, green onions, and soy sauce) I had bought by mistake at the farmer’s market 2 weeks ago. Neither Bruce nor I are big snap pea lovers; I have a hard time getting excited about eating a pod. I had thought the peas were real English peas and bought 2 lbs of the darned things. We’ve been putting them in everything just to eat them and be done; we accomplished that goal tonight. We washed down the peas with a bottle of La Vielle Ferme 2008 Cotes Du Luberone (Bruce had leftover red wine to start which is what is in the photo: Robert Mondavi Meritage 2007).

looks like an amazing meal! I love trying my luck with different food and wine pairings. That really is what wine is all about. It’s meant to be fun and relaxing and served with good food. Cheers!
